Comprehensive Eye Care

Eye exams should be performed annually to monitor the changes in your eye health and be sure that you are seeing your best. Also, many eye health changes occur without noticeable signs and symptoms and are usually more successfully treated if diagnosed and managed early.

The doctors will provide a comprehensive eye exam to check the health of your eyes for signs of disease and provide a plan for your unique vision needs. They will check for signs of glaucoma, a potentially sight-stealing disease.

One of the components of an eye exam includes the collection of medical history. The patient’s health history, as well as their family health history, their symptoms and any medication they are taking are all factors noted during the exam. Many medications and overall health conditions can affect vision.

Retinal Digital Imaging, or RDI, provides a digital documentation of the back of the eye where the delicate structures are clearly visible. These tiny structures are often the first to be affected by systemic and eye diseases. This photo-documentation allows the doctors to monitor the changes in eye health over the course of time and make note of any pathology. The process is safe, quick and gentle, but can lead to a lifetime of healthy vision.

The office also provides complete field of vision testing. Visual field analysis measures retinal sensitivity and neurological function by checking vision in the entire normal range of vision. It can pick up retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, retinal tumors or hemorrhages, retinal detachments or any neurological problems such as glaucoma, multiple sclerosis or brain tumors. Many of these conditions may not be noticeable to an individual until they become severe when the conditions are harder to treat and vision may not be saved.

At University City Vision Care, we love children and our exams for children include complete eye health assessments as well as color testing, depth perception, and eye muscle coordination. To prepare your child for their first exam, encourage them to ask questions. Make the appointment early in the day, when their energy levels and attention are at their best. Most importantly, have fun!
